For a good poker player, exploiting his/her table image is one of the essential aspects of the game. Everyone knows that chasing the positive mathematical expectation is the way to go about making money. Most people also know though, they shouldn’t do it passively. In poker, good things don’t really come to those who wait. A good player knows he needs to go out there, and he needs to at least attempt to manipulate his/her opponents. A confused opponent is always better than one who has an accurate read on you, but nothing beats someone who’s manipulated into believing the wrong thing.

If you’re a good cash-game player, remember this before you go on to apply the same kind of approach in tournaments: there are several differences between tournament and cash play. Only when you’re truly comfortable with all those differences do you stand a chance to be equally successful in tournaments too. Calling when having the worst hand is one of the biggest poker mistakes inexperienced and poor poker players make. The thinking of this mistake usually goes something like this:
“Well I’ve got a Queen and a 6 so, if I get a Queen on the flop I should be ahead and winning and if I get a Queen and a 6 I’m bound to take down a big hand.”
